Bulk Substrate Preparation Guide
You'll Need:
Olympus Myco Bulk Substrate Kit:
1000g Coco Coir
475g Vermiculite
235g Gypsum
16 cups (4 quarts) Boiling Water
5-gallon Bucket with Lid
70% Isopropyl Alcohol
Step 1: Sanitize Bucket and Lid
Thoroughly sanitize the 5-gallon bucket and lid using 70% isopropyl alcohol.
Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients
In the 5 gallon bucket, mix coco coir, vermiculite, and gypsum together.
Step 3: Boil Water
Heat 16 cups (4 quarts) of water until it reaches boiling point.
Step 4: Pasteurization and Hydration
Carefully pour the boiling water over the dry ingredients in the bucket. Cover with lid and let it sit for 90 minutes. This allows the mixture to pasteurize and hydrate.
Step 5: Mix
After 90 minutes, remove the lid and mix the substrate thoroughly. This helps distribute moisture and ingredients evenly.
Step 6: Cool
Allow the substrate to cool down to room temperature. Once cooled, it's ready for use. This kit produces over 11 lbs of mushroom substrate.
Step 7: Incorporate with Grain Spawn
For best results, introduce the substrate into a 56-66qt monotub. Add 5-6lbs of colonized grain spawn to initiate the growth process.
